CRI Fall 2012 Program Preview

On behalf of CRI, I would like to welcome all of you back to campus! We have a lot to look forward to this semester, and this is my first chance to give you all a sneak peek!  I’m about to provide you with a lot of awesome information, so buckle up!

Coming back to school, or being here for the first time can be stressful and hectic. You want to make sure you leave time available for yourself. However, you have to decide what you want to do with that time.

The good news is that I have really great suggestion for you!

One of the most popular programs available at the Recreation Activity Center (RAC) is Group Fitness.  Group Fitness classes are offered daily and they are FREE, so it’s really easy to work them into your schedule (no excuses!). Sometimes students are intimidated by attending group fitness classes, but I assure you it is a fun way to workout while providing an opportunity to meet and interact with new people.

Also, take note that ZUMBA IS BACK!

If playing sports is more your thing, we have plenty of opportunities for those as well!

Intramural Sports is a great way to stay active, have fun and catch a break from your academic classes. You’re welcome to sign up as an individual or with teams. Some of the sports offered are Flag Football, Softball and much more. Check out the Intramural Sports website for more information!

If you’re on the more competitive side or are more advanced in a particular sport, you may be interested in Club Sports. Our Club Sports Fair was Monday, August 27, 2012 at 6 p.m. but you can still get involved!  Simply contact the president of the club you wish to join.  All contacts can be found on the Club Sports website.

Like to swim? Sign up for Swim the SoCon and swim for our Georgia Southern Eagles! For every touchdown our Eagles score, you swim 100 yards that week. A great way to celebrate our Eagles while staying cool and getting a great workout!

Another great way to enjoy our awesome indoor pool is to come try out our brand new game: BATTLESHIP

On top of all this intense pool time, you may want to enjoy a leisurely swim. The Eagle Luau is a fun and exciting outdoor pool party on Tuesday, September 4 from 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. Bring your friends and enjoy a swim along with a live DJ, games, free food and prizes!

The LivinGreen Challenge starts on September 1, 2012. This is a consecutive 10, 20 or 30 day challenge. You get to decide how long you would like to commit to reducing your carbon footprint.  Take pictures and attend special advents to be eligible for great raffle prizes! For more information and registration, go to the LivinGreen website!

Find your inner True Blue self by running or walking the True Blue 5K on Saturday, November 10! This is Homecoming weekend, so go ahead and mark this race on your calendar to ensure you don’t miss out on this awesome event!

Southern Adventures offers clinics and trips to students. Students can use these clinics to prepare themselves for the Southern Adventures trips or a trip on their own. Students can start signing up for the Southern Adventure Trips on the first day of school. Trips vary from Whitewater Rafting to Backpacking. These trips fill up fast, so make sure you plan ahead and sign up ahead! You are also welcome to rent equipment from Southern Adventures if you’re planning your own escapade!

Hosted by CRI’s Southern Adventures, the Iron Eagle Challenge is an adventure race that travels through Georgia Southern University’s scenic campus. The course requires two person race teams to off-road/urban cycle, run/walk, canoe, and conquer many mystery challenges along the way. The mystery challenges require both mental and physical skills and provide a nice break from cycling and running, making the race possible for anyone in moderate cardiovascular shape.

If you made it through all of this information, I salute you! I know it’s a lot of information and you’re already trying to balance everything on your calendar, but keep in mind that this isn’t everything! To find out about even more about CRI and what we have to offer, visit the CRI website!

Happy new school year!
Amanda
