We go on “fun runs” when it rains. We try not to cancel practice ever, so when it does rain we take a team run on campus, around campus and through campus. And we call it a “fun run” because sometimes we take a quick run through some of the buildings. Let’s keep that our little secret.
I love the competition and teamwork that is involved in Club Sports. Georgia Southern does a great job at helping the club leaders have the proper tools to succeed as a team, whether its facilities, funding or support.
We practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 5:30-8:30. At practice we generally do a 25 minute warmup of stretching throwing and running. Next we tend to do drills and work on skills. Then we scrimmage and work on chemistry with each other. To close practice we usually do sprints, especially if its been a rough day.
We don’t just play one game. We play at tournaments about every other weekend, we play around 4 or 5 games Saturday, and then 4 more games on Sunday. Games last about 90 minutes.
A ton of fun, we have built good relationships with a lot of teams from other schools. This year we went to Louisiana, Tallahassee, Clemson, and Athens. This weekend we will be traveling to Knoxville for our Sectionals tournament.
My favorite memory about club sports has been playing the sport itself and learning about Ultimate as a young Freshman. It’s amazing to look back at the memories I have createdbecause I decided to walk out on the CRI fields in the fall of 2007.
I played Ultimate in High School, but not competitively. When I got College I knew I wanted to play Ultimate but didn’t know when the team met or where. One day I was playing basketball at the RAC, and as I was leaving I saw Discs flying on the fields. So I checked it out, and got hooked immediately, the people were friendly and I had a blast playing.
We officially began in 1998 and hope to continue that tradition for many more years.
Sectionals and Regionals.
Update on the Ultimate Frisbee team! The team qualified for Regionals and will go on to compete with major schools in the Southeast. Like Ryan said, this is the first time the team has qualified for Regionals in seven years, so it is a very exciting time for the team!
